Green Chemistry Research Interests
Dr. LeCaptain's current CMU research efforts is the development of green, sustainable materials and process development for biodiesel production. Key component of the materials research is the utilization of ethanol, butanol, and succinic acid as building blocks. The latter studies in biodiesel process development seeks production methods utilizing analytical chemistry to enhance the process as well as collaborations across disciplines exploring alternative sources for oils. The oil to biodiesel process, fermentation technologies, and materials development naturally intertwine in the development of process methods for integrating, optimizing, and implementing the technologies.
